SWIVL believes families, communities, schools, organizations, and nations are more likely to be ViolenceFree when individuals have the capacity and volitional control to act on their own behalf. When people are dependent on others or perceive that they are externally controlled there is strong evidence to suggest individuals are more likely to be passive, passive aggressive, or overtly violent towards others and less democratic. The SWIVL Capacity Building Protocol
To increase personal independence and violencefree environments, SWIVL has developed a Capacity Building Protocol that includes the following phases: (1) Identifying Talents,
(2) Developing Strengths, (3) Encouraging Strength-Based Leadership, (4) and Building Strength-Based Relationships. Click here for more. SWIVL provides training, information, and support to increase individual, family, and organizational capacity to increase assertive, compassionate, and democratic behaviors.
Identifying Talents
SWIVL works to help individuals identify and pay attention to their talents. As individuals identify and internalize their talents, they begin to establish self-efficacy, confidence, and a new sense of energy and assertiveness. This energy increases the capacity of individuals to transfer their feelings of optimism and hope to others.
Developing Strengths
SWIVL works to help individuals identify and apply the requisite knowledge and skills to their talents in order to develop their personal strengths. This combination of talents, knowledge, and skills, when coherently applied, is fundamental to individual, social, and group success.
Encouraging Strength-Based Leadership
SWIVL works to help individuals become leaders through strength-based training and initiatives. By focusing on strengths or assets and not weaknesses or deficits, individuals are more likely to have a greater appreciation and therefore emotional empathy for others. Persons that exhibit emotional empathy are more inclined to recognize the value and self-worth of other individuals. Recognizing the strengths in others, valuing, and understanding their emotional state creates a pathway that leads to assertive and compassionate behaviors. When other individuals reciprocate, strength-based relationships begin to develop.
Building strength-Based Relationships
SWIVL works to help individuals create strength-based relationships that encourage direct citizen investment in the development and implementation of public policy. Through the creation of relationships and partnerships, based on individual independence and volitional control, individuals work together to create families, communities, schools, organizations, and nations are more likely to be democratic and ViolenceFree.
SWIVL Culture of Success Protocol
SWIVL believes that a culture of success is a requisite condition to a ViolenceFree environment. The four interrelated phases of the Culture of Success Protocol can be applied at the individual, family, and public and private organizational levels. This Protocol creates a rich environment based on individual talents leading to the development of strength-based social networks. Through the dynamic interaction between people and groups, SWIVL works with individuals and communities to develop a political culture that supports behaviors and practices around individual talents.
